AKASH (Ether) Element

The Space element, or Akasha, is one of the five elements that make up the universe and the human body. It is responsible for the infinite expanse of the universe and the empty spaces within the body. It is the most subtle and expansive of all the elements, and it is associated with qualities such as emptiness, openness, and expansion. It is also the source of sound and the medium of communication. It is related to the Throat Chakra, the sense of hearing, and the ear organ. The balance of the Space element is essential for health and well-being, as it affects the consciousness, spirituality, and creativity of the individual.

The  Akasha (Space) element can be broadly categorized into three types, each with a specific name, function, and location:

1) Physical akasha:

This is the space that accommodates the physical structures and functions of the body, such as the organs, the bones, the muscles, the nerves, the blood, the lymph, etc. Physical akasha also includes the anatomical planes that divide the body into different sections, such as the sagittal, coronal, and transverse planes.

 2) Vital akasha:

This is the space that regulates the flow and balance of the life force or Prana in the body, which is responsible for the vitality and health of the body and mind. Vital akasha also includes the nadis, or the subtle channels that carry Prana throughout the body, and the chakras, or the energy centers that correspond to different aspects of the psyche.

 3) Mental akasha:

This is the space that facilitates the communication and creativity of the mind, which is responsible for the perception and expression of reality. Mental akasha also includes the manas, or the mind, which is the seat of thoughts, emotions, and desires, and the buddhi, or the intellect, which is the seat of discrimination, logic, and wisdom.

The balance of the Ether element is important for health and well-being, as it affects the quality and quantity of the other elements in the body. When the Ether element is balanced, it leads to proper communication, expression, and understanding of the self and others. It also allows for the expansion and growth of the mind and the spirit.

When the Ether element is imbalanced, it can lead to various disorders, such as:

1) Low ether, or Alpa Akasha, which is caused by excess intake of heavy, oily, or sweet foods, or by emotional factors such as attachment, greed, or jealousy. It leads to congestion, accumulation, and stagnation of the other elements in the body, as well as loss of sound, voice, and emotion.

2) High ether, or Ati Akasha, which is caused by excess intake of light, dry, or bitter foods, or by emotional factors such as fear, grief, or loneliness. It leads to depletion, fragmentation, and isolation of the other elements in the body, as well as loss of stability, harmony, and peace.

3) Irregular ether, or Vishama Akasha, which is caused by irregular intake of hot, cold, or spicy foods, or by emotional factors such as stress, anxiety, or anger. It leads to disturbance, imbalance, and chaos of the other elements in the body, as well as loss of balance, rhythm, and calm.

To maintain or restore the balance of the Ether element, one should follow a healthy diet and lifestyle that is suitable for one’s constitution and the season. Some general tips are:

A) Drink warm water or herbal teas throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and your mind calm. Avoid drinking water that is too cold, too hot, or contaminated, as they can disturb or damage your Ether element.

B) Eat fresh, wholesome, and natural foods that are easy to digest and compatible with your body type and the climate. Avoid eating foods that are too dry, too oily, or too processed, as they can deplete or aggravate your Ether element.
Include spices and herbs in your cooking, such as fennel, cardamom, mint, coriander, and licorice, as they can balance your Ether element and improve your digestion and taste.

C) Practice yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises to relax your body and mind, and to balance your emotions. Avoid activities that can cause fear, grief, or anger, as they can disrupt your Ether element.

D)Engage in spiritual practices, such as chanting, praying, or contemplating, to connect to the higher power and the universal consciousness. Avoid activities that can cause doubt, confusion, or ignorance, as they can block your Ether element.
